| "BEST FOOT FORWARD" - Etiquette Classes for Boys in Grades 6-9 |

| The six individual (1.5 hour) sessions of this class are focused on social presentation and casual and formal dining skills as well as telephone (and cell) usage, school and other interviews, conversation skills, respect and courtesy in daily situations, sports etiquette, introductions, and speaking before a group. |
| Two levels are offered: I and II (for those who have successfully completed Level I) |

| FIRST MEETING |
 |
| Goals: |
|
To help students understand and practice knowledgeable, courteous and considerate behavior towards others.
|
|
To point out responsibilities that young men have to learn about and practice courtesy in everyday life situations.
|
 |
| Topics: Making introductions and meeting new situations, shaking hands, communication skills, self-presentation (walking, sitting, posture), holding doors for others, helping others with coats, conversation with adults, and other courtesies - including when to stand and awareness of habits that detract. Light food and beverage will be served. |

| SECOND MEETING |
 |
| Goals: |
|
To help students understand the necessity of and accepted practices of writing notes, including the rsvp.
|
|
To build skills in other communication areas, including the telephone.
|
|
To introduce the concept of dress codes and rules.
|
 |
| Topics: Thank you note format, letters, the rsvp. Phone usage and protocols, including messages, unwanted calls, emergencies. Rules to dress by for young men. Light food and beverage will be served. |

| THIRD MEETING |
 |
| Goals: |
|
To address the basic components of dining.
|
|
To increase students' awareness of their role in making mealtime or dining out a pleasant experience, and to increase their comfort level in both formal and casual meal venues.
|
 |
| Topics: Seating others at the table, table etiquette, place settings, stemware and beverages, napkin usage, eating soup, cutting positions, continental and American styles of eating, the bread plate, passing food, dealing with unwanted food, deportment. Food and beverage will be served. |

| FOURTH MEETING |
 |
| Goals: |
|
To continue the dining session, with emphasis on conversation skills.
|
|
To build confidence for school and other interviews.
|
|
To help make students comfortable when speaking before a group.
|
|
To provide a forum for understanding what it is to be a good sport - in the locker room, on the field, and in the stands.
|
 |
| Topics: Reinforcement of all session three topics plus: interview pointers and preparation, review of conversational techniques with peers and adults, confidence building in speaking before others, and sports etiquette and its necessity. Food and beverage will be served. |

| FIFTH MEETING |
 |
| Goals: |
|
To practice dining and speaking skills with a group in a restaurant setting.
|
 |
| Topics: Dining in a restaurant. A multi-course meal with a full array of silver and glassware, providing practice in seating, awareness of one's table space, speaking briefly in front of a group, thanking those responsible for the meal, handling coats, and table conversation. |

| SIXTH MEETING |
 |
| Goals: |
|
To provide a wrap-up session, showing students how much they have learned, and to create a venue for communication with parents so that lessons can be reinforced and complemented at home.
|
 |
| Topics: This parent/student session provides a review of the concepts covered in prior sessions. Certificates of achievement will be presented. No food will be served. |
 |
